Smokefree Generation

From 1 January 2027, a new law will help create a smokefree generation by making it illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009.

The change is part of the Tobacco and Vapes Act and aims to protect future generations from the harms of smoking, reduce smoking-related illness and help more people live longer, healthier lives.

Liverpool supports the Smokefree Generation ambition as part of our commitment to improving health and reducing health inequalities across the city.

It also gives the government powers to stop vapes and other nicotine products (such as nicotine pouches) from being marketed to children as well as the ability to extend the ban on smoking in public places to some outdoor spaces and introduce vape-free areas.
