Quit support using e-cigarettes
Smokefree Liverpool can support people using e-cigarettes/vapes to quit smoking if this is the intervention they want to use, we are currently implementing an e-cigarette pilot within service, this pilot includes providing e-cigarettes to a selected population within the city. We stress that e-cigarettes should not be used in conjunction with smoking tobacco and we encourage those who are using e-cigarettes to only vape when they feel the urge to smoke a cigarette.
YOU MUST BE OVER 18 YEARS OLD TO BUY A VAPING DEVICE
E-Cigarettes or vapes are becoming increasingly more popular with both adults and young people.
- E-cigarettes are 95% safer than smoking tobacco not completely risk free - HOWEVER long-term use from young is untested
- No evidence of direct harm to bystanders from exposure to e-cigarette
- Allows users to inhale nicotine without most of the harmful effects
- You must be over 18 to buy a vaping device
NICE Guidance states that:
- although these products are not licensed medicines, they are regulated by the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016
- people using e-cigarettes should stop smoking tobacco completely because any smoking is harmful
- the evidence suggests that e-cigarettes are substantially less harmful to health than smoking but are not risk free
- the evidence in this area is still developing, including evidence on the long-term health impact.
